Little Johnny is constantly late for school
Little Johnny is known throughout his school for being perpetually late. No matter how hard he tries, he just can’t seem to make it on time. Every morning is a new adventure, filled with his mischievous antics and elaborate excuses. What really gets under his teacher’s skin, however, is the grandiose set of lies he spins every time he strolls into class late. His tales become increasingly outrageous, stretching the limits of believability, leaving his teacher—and often his classmates—rolling their eyes in disbelief.
After yet another morning of waiting for Johnny, his teacher decides she has had enough. Frustrated by Johnny’s antics, she approaches the principal, pouring out her grievances about his excuses. “Every time he walks through that door, it feels like I’m listening to a new episode of ‘The Tall Tales of Little Johnny.’ I can’t take it anymore!” she exclaims.
The principal, a seasoned educator with a knack for pragmatic solutions, shares her frustration. “I understand your concern completely,” he replies thoughtfully. “Next time Johnny comes to school late, send him to my office. I have a little plan in mind that might change his perspective on storytelling—at least for a while.”
The very next day, as the morning sun rises high in the sky, Johnny casually breezes into school a full two hours late. He strolls into the classroom, flashing that trademark grin, and declares, “I was two hours early today, so I decided to stop by the pond on my way to school. You won’t believe it! I caught a whopping 17-pound trout! It was so huge that I had to take it home! My mom would’ve been furious if I didn’t clean it and freeze it before she got back. That’s why I’m late!”
The teacher, who has heard enough of his tall tales, takes a deep breath to steady herself. Without missing a beat, she grabs Johnny by the hand and leads him straight to the principal’s office. “Principal Thompson,” she says, barely able to contain her exasperation, “you won’t believe what Johnny just told me about his fishing escapade!”
The principal, with a knowing smile, motions for Johnny to sit down. “Alright, Johnny,” he says, “let’s hear about this great trout you caught. But before you continue with your story, let me tell you about my own little adventure on my way to school this morning.”
Johnny’s eyes widen with curiosity. The principal leans back in his chair, theatrically gesturing as he narrates, “You see, Johnny, today as I was walking through the park along the trail, I suddenly heard a loud rustling noise behind me. My heart raced as I turned around—and there it was—a gigantic grizzly bear! This creature was an astounding 24 feet tall, with fearsome six-inch fangs glistening in the sunlight!”
Johnny’s jaw drops in disbelief, captivated by this unexpected turn of events. The principal continues, raising his voice for dramatic effect, “I knew I was in serious trouble! Just as I was ready to run, a little dog, not more than a foot tall, darted out from the bushes. You wouldn’t believe what happened next! That brave little pup leaped right up and charged at the bear, barking fiercely!”
The principal pauses for effect, observing Johnny’s reaction. “You won’t believe it, Johnny! That tiny dog attacked the bear with such ferocity that it actually managed to overpower it! And then—get this—the little dog devoured the entire bear right there in front of me! I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was the most astonishing sight I’ve ever witnessed on my way to school. What do you think of that, Johnny?”
Johnny, still in disbelief but quick to respond, finally replies with a grin, “Oh, that’s just my dog Sparky! He’s been on a roll this week—that’s his third bear he’s taken down! It’s like he’s trying to compete in his own version of a reality show!”
At this moment, the principal can’t help but chuckle. He realizes that maybe, just maybe, Johnny is not just a master storyteller but also a character with a vivid imagination. He leans back in his chair, shaking his head with a smile. “Well, Johnny, it seems you and Sparky sure know how to keep things interesting around here. But with stories as big as yours, remember that sometimes the truth is just as remarkable—if not more so—than any tall tale you can tell.”
With a newfound respect for both Johnny and his imaginative tales, the principal decides that perhaps the best lesson here is not just about honesty but also about the creativity that lies within all of us—even if it sometimes gets a little exaggerated.
